Exosome Therapy: What to Know Before Treatment

Exosome therapy is an elective option with varying products, protocols and evidence; assessment and informed consent should come before treatment.

Exosome therapy is promoted for appearance-related skin or hair concerns, but the term does not describe one standard product or protocol. The source, ingredients, delivery method, evidence, expected course and regulatory status of a proposed product can differ.

FZ's active Aesthetics list includes Exosome & PRP Therapy for Face and Exosome & PRP Therapy for Hair. These are separate assessment routes, and neither treatment nor a particular result should be assumed before consultation.

Concerning reactions need prompt medical assessment

Contact the treating team promptly after a procedure, and use urgent medical care when symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening.

  • Breathing difficulty or swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat
  • Fever, spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus or severe pain
  • Blistering, marked swelling, skin discolouration or an open wound
  • Any rapidly worsening reaction or feeling acutely unwell

What is exosome therapy?

Exosomes are small particles released by cells that can carry signalling molecules. In aesthetic settings, products described as exosome-based may be applied or delivered in different ways. Product composition and clinical evidence are not uniform, so broad claims about regeneration, collagen, skin health or hair growth should be treated cautiously.

Ask the clinician to identify the exact product, source and proposed delivery method and to explain why it is being considered for your concern. Do not assume that a product is approved, sterile or suitable without that discussion.

Exosome therapy for face concerns

A face consultation may discuss texture, hydration, visible dullness or other appearance-related concerns. The clinician should first assess active acne, eczema, infection, broken skin, pigment risk, scarring history, medicines and recent procedures.

Visible changes, if any, differ between individuals and may be temporary. Exosome therapy cannot guarantee collagen production, skin renewal, radiance, scar improvement or a younger appearance.

Exosome therapy for hair or scalp concerns

Hair thinning or shedding can have genetic, hormonal, nutritional, medication-related, stress-related or scalp causes. A hair/scalp assessment should consider these possibilities and whether Dermatology or medical testing is the better starting point.

No exosome or PRP plan can guarantee stronger follicles, increased density or restored hair. The proposed product, number of sessions, alternatives and how response will be reviewed should be explained first.

Exosome, PRP and microneedling are not interchangeable

PRP uses a preparation from the patient's own blood, while an exosome product has a different source and composition. Microneedling is a procedure that creates controlled micro-channels and may be offered with a selected adjunct after assessment.

FZ's active list confirms Microneedling with Serums or PRP separately. It does not establish that exosome microneedling is used for every patient, so the exact combination must be confirmed before booking or consent.

What should be confirmed before treatment?

  • The exact product, source, ingredients, storage and delivery method
  • The clinician performing the procedure and why it may suit the concern
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, allergies, medicines and relevant conditions
  • Active infection, broken skin, recent procedures and scarring or pigment history
  • Possible reactions, alternatives, expected course, aftercare and current total cost

Exosome consultation at FZ International Hospital

FZ lists separate face and hair/scalp Exosome & PRP assessment routes. Reception can confirm the currently available clinician and service; the treating clinician should then confirm the exact proposed product or PRP preparation, suitability, contraindications, expected course and aftercare.
